Practices will be organized on Wednesdays and Fridays after school from September 16th to November 6th. Please note, no practice Friday, October 9th. Wednesday’s practices are from 1:15-3:15 pm and Friday’s practices run from 3:30- 5:30pm. What is Cyclocross?

Cyclocross combines the agility of mountain biking with the speed of road cycling. Cyclocross races are held on a 1 to 2 mile loop though grass, dirt trails, pavement, sand and mud. Riders also run and jump with their bikes over barriers, and scramble up short, steep hills. Cyclocross races are usually held in the fall and winter, in sun, rain, snow or hail. Cyclocross events in Oregon welcome participation from individuals at all ability levels. Courses are spectator friendly- and more often than not, costumes are encouraged. Bend, Oregon is the home to the 2009 and 2010 Cyclocross National Championships. Over 2,000 riders from across the country will visit Bend in December to compete for 35 National titles.

What do you need to join?

  • A bicycle in good working order. Mountain bikes are fine; just take off your water bottle cages. We have a few loaner mountain bikes available for those in need.
  • Helmet, gloves, sunglasses, repair kit, dry clothes for after practice, snack, water bottle.
  • Optional: Cycling shorts

Who can participate?

This activity is open to anyone in Bend ages 11-18 who likes riding bikes.

What do you get?

A plethora of new cycling skills, and an opportunity to meet new friends, get in really good shape, have a ton of fun and perhaps become inspired to race a local or regional Cyclocross event. Based on interest, BCC coaches can facilitate travel to a Cross Crusades race in Portland, OR or other Oregon Bicycle Racing Association (OBRA) sanctioned events.

Who will be running the camp?

The training camp will be run by Bend Cycling Club coaches and racers who have participated in hundreds of Cyclocross races in Oregon in the last few years. In addition, we are lucky that a handful of professional Cyclocross racers live locally and may stop by on occasion to help out and offer advice.

Inclement Weather

Rain or shine- we will ride! Please choose your clothing accordingly- making sure to bring a dry set of clothes to change into after practice! This includes a dry shirt, pants, jacket socks, shoes and hat.
