Versatile, masterful, smooth, muddy… The best qualities of a cyclocross rider are not just instinct, they’re the result of hard work, lots of practice and a love for riding bikes. Cross is the best place for riders to get into bike racing.

- Beginner to Advanced Racers
- 1, 2, or 3 days of practice days mid-week
- Races almost every weekend
- Travel to all High School Series and most Junior Series & Cross Crusade Races
- Special Guest Riders and Coaches
- Local races make racing easier to try

- Team travel to away races make them easier to attend
Cyclocross Development Camp: September 23 – 25
Sample Mid-Week Cyclocross Practice:
Meet at a park, setup the practice course, drills for 20 minutes, ride the practice course for several laps while coaches work on specific items on the course, have a snack, drinks, ride in work groups on the course, etc. Total time 2 hours, with 1.5 hours riding.
Practice Schedule:
- Tuesdays: 5:00 – 6:00PM at Summit High School. For all BEA riders. High School Practice is in the same place from 4:00 – 5:00 with Matt Fox so if you’re racing HS be there at 4 for his practice then we’ll merge at 5. Matt is also coaching for BEA. Tuesdays will be mostly trail rides, but tomorrow we’ll be doing basic skills and drills to get started. We might go a little past 6, to 6:15 at the latest.
- Wednesdays: 4:00 – 6:00PM at Cascade Middle School. We will have skills, drills and course practice. Intensity will vary, but always plan on doing some hard efforts and mock-races.
- Thursdays: 4:00 meet at Summit High School, same as Tuesday. For Thursdays in September, we will be incorporating the Thrilla Races into our practices. We will go over skills and race plans until 5, then you will register and start the race at 5:30. Racing is not mandatory, but it’s what cyclocross is all about so I expect you all to take advantage of this opportunity. Thrilla Races are fun and appropriate for everyone age 10+ and I will be there to offer race tips and racing support during the event. Bring $8 for your race or pay $25 for the series (3 races remain). Once the series is over, Thursdays will be another practice course day.
- Friday: Everyone on the CX Team is invited to this All BEA Strength Training Session at 2:00PM on Fridays at Cascade Middle School. Although not ideal before an important Saturday race, these sessions are great for you to meet other BEA athletes and do some really hard strength work that will get you in shape fast. Plan on doing as many of these as you can through the fall. Strength will change to Wednesdays around Thanksgiving.
- September 13 – November 19
- 10 Weeks of Regular Season
- Extended Season available on an individual basis for those doing the USGP and/or Nationals – tuition to be determined by the trip costs
Which Days to Attend?
- Best Choice: Thursday is an all-comer practice for our program, high school programs and COCC and will focus on drills and skills – make this your priority.
- Wednesdays are next best because we meet earlier and have more daylight thanks to early-release. We will do easier rides and strength training.
- Tuesdays will be longer “trail rides” around town and on mixed terrain and will focus on fitness over skills. A must for serious racers.
- Weekends – we want everyone there in the van for our trips!
Tuition:
Costs for the 10-week program is based on 1, 2 or 3 days of mid-week practice. Race support and weekend practices are included for all levels but trip costs to away races are not included in Tuition.
- 1 Practice / Week + Race Support: $150
- 2 Practices / Week + Race Support: $250
- 3 Practices / Week + Race Support: $400
- Cyclocross Camp Sept. 23 – 25: See full details here
Team Supported Races and Trips:
- Home Races are included in Tuition (Crossaflixion, Thrilla, USGP Bend)
- Away Races are not included in tuition, they average $25 – $30 for transportation per trip
- Save money by registering for the entire series: Oregon Junior and High School Cyclocross Series, Crossaflixion Series, Thrilla Series, Cross Crusade, USGP Bend, US Nationals
- Cyclocross is all about racing, so please budget for team travel to at least the 5 High School races, which would be approximately $120 for transportation and entries.
- Van travel is integral to our success as a team. We want all of our riders to choose the van first.
- Traveling with family and friends to the race is great, too, but it’s harder for us to integrate you into the team and riders miss out on the social aspect of the trips.
- If we have open space, family and friends who are also racing at the event are welcome to join us in the van. Check with Bill about this.
