COCC club skiers will be eligible to participate in organized and fully supported trips to designated races throughout the Western US. Last year, Joe Madden represented the COCC Nordic Ski Club at the USCSA National Championships in Rumford, ME while COCC students Darragh Hildreth and Brandon Roadman competed in the 2010 Junior National Championships in Presque Isle, ME. This year, the USCSA National Championships will be held in Sun Valley, ID.
The COCC Nordic Club will be coached by Brenna Warburton and Ben Husaby of the Bend Endurance Academy. Husaby has served as Head Coach for Pacific Northwest Ski Association Senior and Junior National teams as has coached at international training camps and races for the US Ski Team. Warburton has 9 years of full time coaching experience and has also coached internationally for the US Ski Team J1 and World Junior Championship teams.
According to COCC Nordic Ski Club coach Ben Husaby, “Many COCC students were exposed to Nordic skiing through high school programs. We are excited to help individuals looking to continue their skiing development at the collegiate level. We are also prepared to work with relative newcomers to the sport as well as those striving for National level success. Every club member will benefit from skiing with a fun group of motivated athletes.”
COCC Nordic Ski Club coach Brenna Warburton said,” There are a bunch of perks for athletes who choose to join the club. Participants will gain an understanding of basic physiology, develop the skills necessary to design their own training plans and receive individualized instruction based on their personal goals- all while having a really good time as part of the largest Nordic team in the Northwest.”
An informational meeting will be held at COCC in Mazama Gym Classroom 101 at 6pm on Wednesday, December 1st.
